9. Erica Ortegas
Erica Ortegas should, in theory, be one of the easiest Strange New Worlds characters to turn into an excellent puppet. Melissa Navia’s pilot is already one of the most animated people on the USS Enterprise.
Ortegas is funny, confident, blunt, stylish, and generally ready to announce that she flies the ship. Her live-action presence often depends on a combination of body language, facial reactions, and a willingness to say exactly what everyone else is thinking.
The puppet captures enough of that personality to be charming, especially through its recognizable hair and attitude. But it never quite gets the defining moment that would make it feel like the ultimate Ortegas puppet.
Ortegas is still fun in miniature. But the design feels like it is waiting for one more huge flight-control gag, one more cutting line, or one more moment of unmistakable Ortegas swagger. Without that extra boost, she lands just outside the top eight.
