“Tomorrow’s Enterprise” is a strong season closer because it trusts a familiar Trek idea, time travel, to reveal something essential about one of its core characters.
Gooding’s performance, the episode’s compassionate view of Scotty, and its focus on communication make the finale feel both forward-looking and unmistakably Star Trek.
