Why didn't Christina Chong just say she'd wrapped filming?

Unless Christina Chong is secretly playing another character in season 5 — give us Mirror La’an, please — the mission to explore strange new worlds is over for the talented actress. Chong has portrayed the beloved character ever since the show debuted in 2022. A descendant of the infamous Khan Noonien Singh, this Trekkie is hoping that in either season 4 or season 5, we finally get to see La’an’s augmented blood boil to the surface and grant her more of the powers surely hidden deep inside of her.

La’an’s flirtations with both James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) and Mr. Spock (Ethan Peck) have been fascinating to say the least, but of late it’s been the way the character has literally danced around her feelings for the beloved Vulcan that I’ve found the most intriguing. Whether something still comes of that relationship or not over the final two seasons remains to be seen. However, if there’s any justice at all in this universe, Strange New Worlds hopefully takes a trip into the Mirror Universe before all is said and done.

The idea of a Mirror La’an with her augmented heritage fully realized would be a sight to see on the small screen. And since Chong didn’t outright say this was “her” end on Strange New Worlds, perhaps the actress is still doing some work on the other side of the mirror.

It’s not likely, but I’m still hoping. After Chong made the announcement on Instagram, I checked several of the other cast members’ social media pages, and I couldn't find any official word that season 5 has wrapped from the likes of Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, or Rebecca Romijn. There’s likely not much more work to do, though, since it’s now the middle of December. Personally, despite an up-and-down season 3, it’s tough knowing that Strange New Worlds is almost over. Hopefully, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will be available to fill the void — if it stays on streaming long enough.
