This TOS character will definitely be in Strange New Worlds “till the end.”
The main cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was announced back in April when the official teaser for season 4 first dropped at the Comic Con Experience (CCXP) in Mexico City. However, there were a few beloved names missing from the press release, including Dan Jeannotte.
Thankfully, though, the actor who plays James T. Kirk’s (Paul Wesley) brother Sam in Strange New Worlds has officially revealed that his character is in season 5, too. Jeannotte said during a panel (per TrekMovie.com): "I am in season 4, I’m in season 5, I’m up in it till the end."
Jeannotte continued by saying:
"And it’s been my pleasure but also my curse to be on a show that’s got a dozen incredibly talented and charming actors who are more important than me.”
Star Trek fans who’ve been watching Strange New Worlds from the beginning remember the now famous “Kirk” tease we all got during the series premiere back in 2022. During the first episode, Mr. Spock (Ethan Peck) casually mentioned to Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) that a certain Lt. Kirk would be serving aboard the USS Enterprise under his command.
However, I — like most fans — was taken by surprise when Lt. George Samuel Kirk (Jeannotte) joined Pike on the Enterprise bridge at the end of the episode and not James T. Kirk, who would, of course, finally show up in the season 1 finale “A Quality of Mercy.”
Sadly, Jeannotte has only appeared in a total of 13 episodes thus far during the show’s successful run, and he “would love to have had more time” on SNW. Jeannotte expanded on that sentiment in the same sit-down, and he even addressed Kirk’s infamous screw up on M'hanit when he touched the musical egg in season 1’s second episode, “Children of the Comet.” Jeannotte said:
“But there’s just so many great characters, so many great actors to fill up that space. But yeah, I’m still there […] They wait till s**t goes bad, and then they’re like, Sam, give us a science explanation. They stopped inviting me on the away missions after I touched that egg [in 'Children of the Comet'].”
I’m delighted to know that Sam will be there right up until the end when his brother takes command of the Enterprise. How About you? Are you excited that Jeannotte will reprise his role in season 5?
