Star Trek fans are eagerly awaiting the premiere of Starfleet Academy on Jan. 15. However, that’s not the only project on the horizon. Speaking to TrekMovie.com at the New York premiere for Starfleet Academy, Tawny Newsome, the actress/creator of a proposed comedy series — originally announced at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con — updated its current status. Newsome said:

“The conversations that I have had is, ‘Hey, we finished writing it,’ and everyone said, ‘Yep, we love it.’ And then we turned it in, and then it was Christmas…. The business is in an interesting place right now… Who knows?”

Newsome worked with writer/director Justin Simien on the series and praised their partnership during the same interview by saying: “I’m so proud of the work that Justin and I did. We love our scripts. We’re ready for someone to just decide. If it’s meant to be, it’ll be. If not, I’ll go do something else. But we love what we wrote.”

The original logline for the comedy provided in 2024 reads as follows: “Federation outsiders serving a gleaming resort planet find out their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant.” It sounds like the show might hit the sweet spot by providing both humor and action to entertain Trek fans... if it happens.
