Fans can boldly go and watch four classic Treks for free beginning June 1.
Star Trek fans and newcomers to creator Gene Roddenberry’s beloved science fiction universe won’t have to pay for Paramount+ or any other video-on-demand services this summer, if they want to boldly go and watch The Next Generation's must-see movies. Yes, all four of TNG’s big-screen adventures will be available to stream for free beginning Monday, June 1, on Tubi.
Despite how deeply wrong I believe it was for Rick Berman, Brannon Braga, and Ronald D. Moore to kill off William Shatner’s iconic Captain James T. Kirk in the first of The Next Generation’s films, Star Trek Generations (1994), even that entry is worth watching.
And die-hard fans are going to need some tissues because not only do they get to witness Data (Brent Spiner) grappling with his newly installed emotion chip, but the Enterprise-D is destroyed! Losing Kirk and the Galaxy-class starship in one movie: talk about an emotional, pre-Burn rollercoaster.
The best of The Next Generation’s four films is without question Star Trek: First Contact (1996). Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the crew of the new Enterprise-E must travel back in time to stop the Borg from interfering with Earth’s initial encounter with the Vulcans.
Rounding out the film series is Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) and Nemesis (2002). Despite being piled on by both critics and audiences, both movies are quite compelling and definitely worth watching — especially for free.
I particularly enjoyed Nemesis, which features Tom Hardy as the villainous clone of Captain Picard, Shinzon. This was pre-Dark Knight Rises, Venom, and MobLand Hardy, who was just beginning to make a name for himself in Hollywood following his appearance in 2001’s Black Hawk Down.

Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
