The Starfleet Academy cast also pulled back the curtain on the hair, makeup, and prosthetic work that brings their characters to life. Giamatti noted that his villainous look takes about two hours in the chair, crediting the speed and skill of the makeup team and joking that it helps that he barely moves while they work.

Other cast members have even more elaborate setups. Gina Yashere explained that once her prosthetics and jacket are on, her posture and facial expressions change and she “literally start[s] to metamorphosize,” while Bella Shepard compared her glittery, stylized brows to playing dress-up every day.
