Starfleet Academy is structured around a new class of cadets learning the ropes of Starfleet, which Holly Hunter neatly summed up in a line from the series: when a student complains everything feels like a lesson, her character, Nahla Ake, snaps back, “Because it’s a school, Caleb.” The show leans into that premise, using the Academy setting to explore youthful mistakes, big ideals, and the responsibilities that come with wearing the Starfleet uniform.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is now streaming on Paramount Plus. With actors like Giamatti joking about transporters and Hunter channeling the spirit of classic Trek, Starfleet Academy looks ready to bridge long-time fans and newcomers in one shared classroom among the stars.
