At the ST-CHI: Trek To Chicago last month, Jeri Ryan spoke to fans during a panel and answered a question about the push for Seven of Nine to join the cast for her sex appeal. While it was obvious that Ryan was very aware of what the network wanted at the time and that the sexualized media push could have been handled better, she also acknowledged that Seven's character did experience the growth she realized was possible. Speaking about Seven's evolution to those in attendance, Ryan said via TrekMovie.com:
“No, I was very lucky. There were beautiful developments for my character. It was a very, very, very rich character.”
Ryan also revealed her thoughts about the early development of Seven, saying, “Very early on with Seven — and I think we kind of all came to that same conclusion together at the same time — we started bringing her too human, too fast. And we all kind of backed off a bit. Like that ‘wish to copulate’ scene we talked about, it was WAY too casual, WAY too fast."
Ryan continued by saying:
"And then we REALLY backed off fast and she went back to being real, almost robotic again. Because it was just way, way, way too soon to be that casual. I think we all kind of came to that same point , that there’s going to be nowhere to go if she gets there this fast.” (Continued...)
