Watching character nuance grow
When a new character comes aboard a Star Trek series that's already established, there's a certain amount of hype that comes with it. Today, the internet picks up information and introduces concepts and characters with Instagram posts, streaming ads, and even live video events on fandom sites.
However, when actress Jeri Ryan joined the cast of Star Trek: Voyager in season 4 (1997), the web was still young, so printed media ads were still the major way that Trek creators caught their audiences' attention.
As a fan who didn't watch Voyager until it appeared on streaming, Ryan's comments track for me because I was able to watch the character change quickly during a one-episode-per-day viewing schedule. Seven of Nine struck me as being just as uneven, especially at the start of her journey.
It is gratifying to watch Seven of Nine's growth on Star Trek: Voyager. It's also nice to see Seven morph into a character who became more than just her body shape. Are you happy with Seven's character growth, particularly the exciting role she played in Star Trek: Picard years later?
