Walter Koenig passed away on Sunday, Oct. 25, of...
It was an incredibly difficult week for Star Trek fans to close out the month of October as both 90-year-old Pavel Chekov actor Walter Koenig and 86-year-old Jean Luc-Picard actor Sir Patrick Stewart passed away within a few days of one another.
And on Tuesday, Nov. 3, Koenig’s official cause of death was finally revealed: “cardiopulmonary arrest with chronic diastolic congestive heart failure as an underlying cause” (per a copy of the actor's death certificate, which was acquired by PEOPLE). “Acute renal failure is also listed as a significant contributing condition,” according to the same report.
Koenig, who first portrayed Pavel Chekov in season 2 of Star Trek: The Original Series, passed away on Sunday Oct. 25, nearly two months after the science fiction franchise celebrated its diamond anniversary. I like many other Trekkies and Trekkers were stunned when the news of Koenig’s death broke. However, mourning one Trek icon was hard enough, but three days later the unthinkable happened.
On Wednesday, Oct. 28, Stewart died after “a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia,” according to representative Kelly Bush Novak, which was revealed when the Star Trek actor’s death was announced to the public via his obituary.
It was also disclosed earlier today (Nov. 3) that Koenig was cremated, and that his final resting place is the Hollywood Forever Cemetery at 6000 Santa Monica Blvd in Los Angeles. At the time of this writing, funeral arrangements for Sir Patrick Stewart have not been released to the public.
In the same report, (per TMZ), it was also revealed that Koenig was laid to rest at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery just like his son Andrew, who sadly committed suicide at the age of 41 back in 2010.
