“Get ready to bid!”
All these years later, one of Star Trek: The Original Series’ most beloved and talked about episodes remains “A Piece of the Action." And now fans of the mobster-centric must-see can own a replica of the classic fedora Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) wore while in disguise on the planet of Sigma Iotia II.
Shatner posted a photo wearing the fedora, while making a special announcement on his Instagram account. The legendary Star Trek actor wrote: “My Charity's Silent Auction goes live on Monday [May 18]. One of the items is a replica of the Fedora I wore in Star Trek's 'A Piece of the Action.'"
Shatner’s Instagram post (below) continues as follows:
“It will be custom made to your head measurements! Go to HorseShow.org & click on the Silent Auction menu to visit the site. And get ready to bid! 100% of the monies raised by this auction will go to the charities listed on the Horse Show website. There are no overhead costs and I'm very proud of that.”
Now, thanks to the replica fedora, all Star Trek fans can fit in with the likes of boss Bela Okmyx (Anthony Caruso) and his "Number One," Lt. Jojo Krako (Vic Tayback) on their planet based upon 1920s mob land Chicago. And, sadly, while I didn’t see any decks of cards dedicated to playing the game of Fizzbin, the silent auction is loaded with items many Trekkies would love to add to their collections.
For instance, Star Trek enthusiasts can bid on a copy of “The Trouble with Tribbles” script from The Original Series which is signed by Shatner. And the minimum bid is only $25 to get the auction started. Now, as for the fedora, fans will have to bid at least $50, if they want a chance at winning “A Piece of the Action” (hat).
Personally, my favorite item up for bid is a Pez Star Trek Collector’s Series set, which includes colorful dispensers made in the likeness of TOS-era Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Scotty, Mr. Sulu, Lt. Uhura, and Mr. Chekov. The packaging looks a little worn. After all, this is the limited edition (250,000 units) Trek-based Pez that was released back in 2008.
So, please DON’T eat the Pez if you win this lot!
William Shatner's Hollywood Charity Horse Show silent auction begins tomorrow (Monday, May 18) and continues until Sunday, May 31, at 3 p.m. ET. For more information and to bid on any and all Star Trek items, visit the HCHS' official website.
