The Star Trek Universe panel happens this weekend.
William Shatner is one of several actors scheduled to appear during the Star Trek Universe panel at this year’s New York Comic Con. The first half of the hour-long gathering will feature Shatner on stage, as NYCC celebrates 60 years of Trek going where no one has gone before, and lifelong fan Ben Stiller will be the moderator of the diamond anniversary chat (per Variety).
Call him a Trekkie, Trekker, or whatever one likes, regardless, Stiller is a bona fide Star Trek fanatic. For those who aren’t aware of Stiller’s passion for the beloved science fiction franchise, the actor even purchased Captain James T. Kirk’s alternate-command tunic, which Shatner wore in “The Enemy Within,” to add to his cherished collectibles.
In fact, be sure to check out the clip from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert below, which hilariously features Stiller correcting the talk show legend when he incorrectly states that “The Enemy Within” is the episode where Mirror Mr. Spock sports a beard.
Stiller is without question one of the preeminent celebrity Trekkies/Trekkers, and his impressive Star Trek collection even includes the Gorn’s head from The Original Series episode “Arena,” which Colbert shows off in photos during Stiller’s appearance on The Late Show in 2025.
Now, for those who plan to attend the Star Trek Universe panel, the second half of the NYCC event will focus on Starfleet Academy season 2, but Stiller will NOT be the moderator.
Instead, Perri Nemiroff of Collider and Ladies Night fame will be on hand with SFA cast members Holly Hunter and Sandro Rosta, among several others, plus both showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau.
The New York Comic Con Star Trek Universe panel will take place Saturday, Oct. 10, from 3:15 p.m. ET until 4:15 p.m. on the Empire Stage in The Big Apple.
As a lifelong Trekkie myself, I can’t wait to see if Stiller reveals that he owns Shatner’s shirt from “The Enemy Within,” to say nothing of his reaction to Stiller's cool collectible. Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
