Trek across the pond and meet an acting icon.
Comic Con Liverpool kicks off this weekend at the Exhibition Centre at the King's Dock, Port of Liverpool, for two days only: Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3. And this year Star Trek’s iconic James T. Kirk himself, William Shatner, is making the trek across the pond to meet fans in the port city. Shatner posted the following on his Instagram account:
“Attention UK Fans! A gentle reminder that I will be in your fair country soon at the Liverpool Comic Con! Come see me!”
It’s been over 30 years since Shatner suited up as the commander of the USS Enterprise, but he remains one of but many fan-favorite actors Trekkies just love to meet. Now, an authentic Shatner autograph will run fans £95 (plus a booking fee), and those in attendance can also opt for a photograph with the Star Trek actor for the same price, according to the CC Liverpool’s official website.
Shatner isn’t the only Star Trek alum who will be on hand both days, though. In addition, fans who visit this year’s CC Liverpool will have the opportunity to meet Brian Thompson, who was a wonderful guest star appearing on a number of Treks over the years.
Trekkies will most likely remember Thompson best for portraying Romulan Admiral Valdore in the Scott Bakula-led Enterprise series. However, he also appeared as other characters on The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and coincidentally, the film that killed off Shatner’s beloved Captain Kirk: Star Trek Generations.
Thompson played one of the Klingons serving under the Duras Sisters. And this was his character's famous last line, right before the Enterprise-D destroyed their Bird-of-Prey: "We are cloaking! Our shields are down!" Remember? What a great scene!
For my money, though, Thompson was never more terrifying than when he portrayed the villain going up against Sylvester Stallone in Cobra (1986). I'll never forget the Night Slaher's (Thompson) uniquely designed knife. Ghastly! In addition to being a lifelong Trekkie, I love the horror movie Fright Night (1985), so I appreciated seeing Thompson when he showed up in the sequel a few years later.
Thompson autographs will only run fans £40, plus the booking fee, and a photo op with the prolific actor costs the same price. Tickets are still available for this year's CC Liverpool and for the after party at Camp and Furnace. For more information, please visit the event’s official website. Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
