Thankfully, Star Trek’s beloved William Shatner is alive and well following a report being published that revealed the actor suffered a "medical emergency." The 94-year-old thespian, who is best known for portraying Captain/Admiral James T. Kirk took to social media today (Thursday, Sept. 25) to set the record straight and reassure the fans that he is very much still with us. Shatner posted a picture of himself on social media, which read, “Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.” He also wrote the following on both his official Instagram and X, formerly Twitter, accounts:
“I over indulged. I thank you all for caring but I’m perfectly fine. I keep telling you all: don’t trust tabloids or AI! 😉”
On Wednesday night (Sept. 24), TMZ reported that Shatner had been “rushed to the hospital” for an undisclosed “medical emergency.” The Star Trek actor’s agent, Harry Gold, told the online publication that his client “experienced an issue with his blood sugar while at his home in Los Angeles late Wednesday afternoon and was checked out.” Later, after Shatner returned home, Gold confirmed, “He’s fine.”
Shatner took up the mantle as the captain of the USS Enterprise after the Jeffrey Hunter-led pilot "The Cage" was rejected. NBC cooked up another pilot, though, this time with Shatner's Captain James T. Kirk supplanting Hunter's Captain Christopher Pike on the bridge of the Starfleet vessel.
"Where No Man Has Gone Before" marked Shatner's first adventure as the beloved commander, at least in production order. As all Trekkies know, it was actually "The Man Trap" that introduced Star Trek to television viewers when it first aired nearly 60 years ago on Sept. 8, 1966.
Glad you're okay, Bill. Live long and prosper, Captain Kirk! Please visit Redshirts Always Die on Facebook and X for more Star Trek content.
