Paul Giamatti's choice of Star Trek movie being The Voyage Home is also interesting, given that it's far more light-hearted. Then again, it’s a good balance to the darker tones of DS9. The time-travel plotline and seeing the Enterprise crew in the 20th century are reasons the movie remains one of the most beloved in Trek history. Giamatti said:

"The one with the whales that’s my favorite movie. It’s such a great movie. And Wrath of Khan is a great one. But I do love [The Voyage Home], that one feels so Star Trek to me and going back to Earth and stuff like that. And the stuff with Spock in it is hilarious. I just love that one."

It’s always good when a Trek fan gets a role in the franchise, and Giamatti is clearly ready to enjoy himself in this part. It’s likely he can draw from some DS9 characters for the part of Nus, a bit over the top in being evil, yet with some layers to the character. Giamatti may have another motive for his attacks and maybe even a point in going after the Federation.

Having an actor as skilled as Giamatti on the show is exciting, and his past love for Star Trek is clear. His casting is just another reason to get excited for Starfleet Academy. For more Star Trek content, visit the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.
