Shatner addresses his "tongue-in-cheek" Raisin Bran ad.
The Seattle Seahawks (17-3) laid waste to the New England Patriots (17-4) in a runaway Super Bowl LX victory that wasn’t even as close as the final score of 29-13 reflects. However, if you decided to take a break from watching the biggest football game of the year during halftime, you missed Kellogg’s 30-second Raisin Bran ad featuring Star Trek icon William Shatner.
The controversial cereal commercial plays on Shatner’s name throughout the advertisement. And when shortened to Shat, the Star Trek actor’s name is suddenly reduced to s**t, quite literally. Shatner discussed the Kellogg’s campaign in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly by saying:
"Kellogg's wanted to do a Super Bowl commercial talking about fiber, which makes you crap really well — you s**t really well with fiber. And the problem was: how do you make that amusing? How do you get a laugh on that? And that's what they worked on.”
Shatner added:
“To their benefit, the advertising company started off with my name, and I kept saying, 'Can you do that? Does that mean it's me sitting on a toilet?' So, we worked on refining what was in decent taste, if not good taste, about what is amusing about going to the bathroom." (Continued on page 2).
