2. Travis Mayweather

Another Enterprise character. Travis Mayweather (Anthony Montgomery) is an example of a character who is desperately underutilized in almost every episode and thus receives relatively little recognition from the fanbase. The latter is somewhat understandable, given the lack of story focus, but the former is less so.
Mayweather has a lot of potential to be compelling. Having grown up in space aboard a cargo vessel, the Horizon, he has a different perspective on space as a place than others aboard Enterprise would. For him, space is not so much a dream to aspire to as the baseline. Thus, the excitement his fellow pioneering explorers feel might be more commonplace to him.
At the same time, though, Travis was sheltered to an extent aboard the Horizon. Having both experience and inexperience could have been an interesting dichotomy to show in Travis. This could have played out over the show’s run, as we see Mayweather both learning and offering insights to his crewmates. This would be a great way to depict a young Ensign.
Unfortunately, Travis does not get to be the focus of very many episodes. Thus, he is left as a character with a lot of potential but not much to show for it. Like I said, I understand how this would leave fans disinterested, but those nuggets of potential make Travis Mayweather worthy of more than he receives, both from the writers and the fans.
