It's that time of year. Here in the United States, it's nearly time for Thanksgiving. It's a time to give thanks, share memories, and get a well-deserved day away from the rigors of our everyday life. It's also a chance to have some really good food.

The typical holiday affair is a turkey, though what you serve is completely up to you. Some do ham, some do lasagna, and others do turkey. It's a great piece of meat and it goes with so many things, but sometimes, just cooking a turkey isn't enough. Sometimes, people just want to deep fry it.

It's a dangerous endeavor, that's for sure. Hot oil and an open fire can create one awful situation. Especially if you put a frozen turkey into that mixture. The oil and fire alone will cause a fire should the two meet, but when you throw in said meat, you're not just getting a meeting of the minds, but a potentially meat-filled turkey torpedo.

That's why it's important to practice proper frying techniques if you intend on sharing a deep-fried bird this holiday season. And who better to help us learn that lesson than Star Trek's very own, William Shatner?

in a video that may be as old as 2011 (if not older), a then 80-year-old Shatner details how he nearly burned down his house when he was younger by deep frying a turkey incorrectly. The video, in conjunction with the insurance company State Farm, tries to add an infusion of humor to this very serious topic, by having Shatner famously overact.

Not only does Shatner overact the only way he can, but the video is filled with special effects that even Star Trek: The Original Series could say they did better. It's hilarious cheesy and it makes the face of the original Star Trek series all the more relatable.

But it is serious. The video covers actual instructions for deep-frying a turkey. Should you think about deep frying a bird this year, we hope you take this video seriously.
