Star Trek Explorer will be releasing its final issue on December 4, 2024, bringing thirty years of Star Trek Magazine to an end. For those of us who are dedicated readers, this isn't welcome news. There's nothing quite like getting the magazine in the mail and taking time to read through its glossy pages, learning new things about your favorite Star Trek character or anecdotes from ages gone by.
It's safe to say there are a lot of things we'll miss when Star Trek Explorer is no more. There were exclusives you could only find within the pages, making one wonder how that information will be revealed from this point forward.
The staff did a wonderful job with in-depth interviews, Inside Trek moments, and archive information. And then there are the incredible sci-fi writers who penned stories we might not have found otherwise. And it makes me ask, where will those stories go now?
Will there be another outlet that will bring us the exclusive details that aren't found anywhere else? Yes, we know there are items that will be covered online like the section on Exploring the Star Trek Universe which shares what is going on within Star Trek at the time of publication. Those are highlights we even cover here. But Star Trek Explorer has been the place to find all of the information at your fingertips. Now, that will be gone, and it's possible there will be parts of Star Trek that we'll miss.
The part I'll miss most are the interviews. Star Trek Explorer has offered us a way to get to know the people involved in Star Trek better. It has opened doors to individuals we might not have gotten a chance to meet any other way.
The ending of the magazine is a closed door to a wealth of knowledge that the team behind Star Trek Explorer worked hard to bring to the fans. And while I hope the magazine will somehow be resurrected down the line, I am glad to have been a subscriber and a reader all these years.
