Could we be getting closer to the Star Trek 4 movie? It sounds like things are moving in the right direction as Variety has reported [via Screenrant] that Zoe Saldana, who plays Lt. Uhura, has signed on for the fourth movie in the Kelvin Timeline. This doesn't mean that Saldana or any of the other actors have actually seen a script yet. In fact, Saldana clarified that she hasn't.

No one really knows what the hold-up is on Star Trek 4 as there have been so many moving parts, it's hard to keep track. We do know that all of the stars have expressed interest in returning, but, at some point, you have to wonder if the team behind the movie just doesn't have the budget or time to continue with the sequel.

While one of the major stars signing on to the project is a step in the right direction, it's still a long way from the finish line. It could be that the other actors are being approached now so the writer knows who to include in the story and who to eliminate, but that's just a supposition. Honestly, the only people who know the status of Star Trek 4 aren't really saying much. At this point in time, it might be better for the fourth movie to shift from a theatrical release to a streaming channel release as the movie Section 31 moved rather quickly when getting ready for its release. But the budget for actors like Chris Pine and Karl Urban may be out of the ballpark for Paramount+.

Saldana signing on to reprise her role just adds one more item to the wait and see list. We could be getting closer to Star Trek 4, but it's probably not going to happen within the next year or two.
