Is Jason Isaacs As Captain A Hint About Star Trek: Discovery’s Plot?

Does Jason Isaacs, best known for roles in Harry Potter and The Patriot, being  cast as Discovery’s captain hint at Star Trek: Discovery’s plot?

EDIT: Yeah probably not, it turns out Jason Isaacs’ character is named Captain Lorca. So it’s unlikely that he is [SPOILER]. It could still be a twist or some kind of misleading title, but it probably means this theory is dead.

According to Deadline Hollywood Jason Isaacs, best known for playing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series and Colonel William Tavington in The Patriot, will the be captain of the Discovery. Now we finally know who will be taking the center chair on the U.S.S. Discovery.

Jason Isaacs has had a long and wonderful career in film and television and will bring a sense of gravity to the new Trek series. Isaacs is also British, hailing from Liverpool England. This is of course the second Star Trek captain to come from Britain the first of course being Patrick Stewart.

Isaac has the acting chops to play any kind of character, but there’s no denying that he’s been regularly cast as a villain. Does this mean that the theories about what Star Trek: Discovery‘s plot might be are true?

LAST WARNING: SPOILERS FOR STAR TREK: DISCOVERY AHEAD!

We know that for the first time in Trek the captain of the Discovery isn’t going to be the central character of the show. That honor will fall to the Lieutenant Commander. This means that there is probably a reason that the captain isn’t the focus of the story.

We also know that Star Trek: Discovery will focus on some event that is already established in Trek canon. These two facts lead you squarely to one thing, the fall of Garth of Izar. It makes sense that we would be following the story of the lieutenant commander on the great Garth of Izar’s ship. She realizes he’s starting to lose it, but how do you confront your captain, especially when that captain is a legend of Starfleet?

We know that by the time of Star Trek: The Original Series Garth of Izar is disgraced and insane, but at one time he was Starfleet’s greatest captain. So all of this together makes it sound like Star Trek: Discovery’s first season at least will be about Garth of Izar. It would of course also explain why CBS has such a huge problem with Axanar wouldn’t it?
