Character development

The characters readers meet in episode 1 of the Stargazers webcomic feel unique from the get-go, especially Leon. Writer Jarrett Melendez takes small steps with each panel, so we get to know what Leon is like and whether he acts and talks like a typical teen despite living on a space station.

Does the environment limit his growth? Does it seem like he has a large group of friends, or is he more of an introvert? The storyline leads us into a classroom setting, where an argument between childhood friends Leon and Syrrik (that's such a Vulcan name for a guy without pointed ears) reveals more insight into his character.

During the classroom scene, their teacher asks about which careers interest them. It leads to an argument because Syrrik knows he wants to enter the academy, while Leon admits he's not sure about his future.

Leon bluffing his way through what "feckless" means that he'll take risks if it means winning an argument! The line, "I have plenty of fecks!" is 100 percent something The Original Series' Kevin Riley or Enterprise's Trip Tucker would say, isn't it? Leon comes across as a memorable, interesting character, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in episode 2!
