Now Nimoy’s son Adam is bringing together those who knew, loved, and were inspired by Leonard Nimoy to pay tribute to his father in a new documentary. Adam Nimoy’s documentary titled For The Love Of Spock and which was funded by a Kickstarter campaign in 2015 has been in the works for well over a year. The film premiered at the Tribeca film festival this past April, and will be coming to theaters this September just in time for Star Trek’s 50th anniversary.

Now we have the first trailer for For The Love Of Spock and it’s simply incredible. So many Star Trek documentaries have been made that it’s hard to keep track of them all, but you can tell this one is going to be special.

Spock, half human and half vulcan, was more than just the science officer and Kirk’s right hand man onboard the USS Enterprise. He was part of a trio of characters whose relationship we have watched develop for decades. He offered guidance and logic to Kirk, in direct opposition to McCoy’s passion and morality. We grew to love his inability to fully understand humor, his spats with Dr McCoy and his relentless pursuit of all things logical. As fans, it is a simple thing to do, but sometimes we forget that the man behind the ears and raised eyebrow, was also a family man; a father.

Adam, has been working on For the Love of Spock and exploring the legacy of his father and the character of Spock for over two years now. Starting off with a Kickstarter campaign, he sought to raise up to $600,000 to fund the project which was achieved mid 2015. Adam even appeared on TV show The Big Bang Theory to ‘interview’ character Sheldon Cooper for the documentary. His passion and commitment for this project, as well as the love and pride for his father shines through in a trailer that been released online yesterday. It’s an emotional watch but it shows the admiration and affection for the character and the actor from former cast members, family and friends as well as stock footage and interviews with the man himself, Mr Leonard Nimoy.

For the Love Of Spock will be getting a limited release in selected theaters but is available via on demand services from September 9th, then hitting DVD and Blu-ray in November.
