Fan Made HD ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’ Battle
A fan has recreated a classic battle from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in HD, and it looks incredible.
The big reason we haven’t gotten Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or Star Trek: Voyager in HD is that the effects for the shows were made with a computer. This means that unlike the practical effects of Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation you would have to recreate all the effects for the show in HD. That remaking of effects would of course cost a good bit of money, money that CBS is as of yet not willing to spend on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or Star Trek: Voyager. This is why we are getting these series released on DVD, and not Blu-ray.
What would an all new HD DS9 look like though? Well thanks to the efforts of one Trekkie we can now get a taste of Deep Space Nine’s epic battles in HD. Feast your eyes on this…
Wow, that’s really the only word for it, wow. The Defiant certianly looks fantastic in HD sliding between Cardassian and Dominion ships as it breaks through the lines and heads for Deep Space Nine.
Seeing the adventures of the Defiant and the Rotarran in HD would be wonderful, but sadly it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. Unless the sales of the new Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine DVDs are simply fantastic I don’t see CBS ponying up to make the HD versions.
Truly at this point as things are already starting to move to 4K Ultra HD anyway it might be better if CBS did wait. Why do HD versions when in a few years 4K is going to be the standard?
Here’s hoping we do see the Defiant in HD one day soon.
