A fan made Daystrom Institute library file on the fearsome Kazon of the Delta Quadrant.

Star Trek YouTuber Ketwolski has produced a series of fan made Daystrom Institute library files covering everything from Cardassians to the Temporal Cold War. These files are both fun and full of fascinating background information that both casual and long time devoted Trekkies will find interesting.

The Kazon were one of the first alien races encountered by Voyager in the Delta Quadrant. Although the Kazon were more primitive than the Federation they did have warp capability and powerful weapons. The Kazon’s desire for new technology made them an early advisory of the Voyager crew.

‘s dramatic reading of this Daystrom Institute library file about the Kazon.

Like many things in Star Trek: Voyager Kazons were a great idea that wasn’t particularly well executed. The Kazon were supposed to be the most powerful race in their area of the Delta Quadrant, but they fought among themselves over the scare resources of the region. The main problem with the Kazon and the idea that they didn’t have enough water was that they could travel at warp. There would have been numerous comets and ice worlds within the reach of Kazon vessels. Even if their home world was without water they should have been able to travel afield and get it.

It’s a minor detail, but it really hurt my ability to enjoy to take Kazons seriously since the lack of resources was a cornerstone of their society. If they had been stranded on a desert planet, and maybe able to get ships into space, but not warp, it would have made more sense.
