A fan made Daystrom Institute library file on the cataclysmic WW3 of Star Trek cannon.
Star Trek YouTuber Ketwolski has produced a series of fan made Daystrom Institute library files covering everything from Cardassians to the Temporal Cold War. These files are both fun and full of fascinating background information that both casual and long time devoted Trekkies will find interesting.
In Star Trek: First Contact we see a world recovering from WW3, but we’ve never been shown much from the actual WW3 time period on Star Trek. We saw some representations of the time after the third world war when Q visited the Enterprise D in Star Trek: The Next Generation, but that’s really about it.
The reason for this is probably that the events of WW3 don’t really have much to do with the Star Trek future. They are a continuation of the problems of our time, something we overcame after first contact.

There’s a possibility that we may get a Star Trek series that explores this time period at some point, but I actually hope we don’t ever see it. Star Trek’s great strength is that it shows a powerfully optimistic future for humanity brought on through science and reason. If you show the third world war and the muck you’re not really doing a Star Trek show. Although the third world war is part of Star Trek cannon, it’s not truly Star Trek. There are more than enough dystopian science fiction tales already if that’s what you’re looking for.
