Daystrom Institute Library Files: The Kressari
A fan made Daystrom Institute library file on the mysterious traders called the Kressari.
Star Trek YouTuber Ketwolski has produced a series of fan made Daystrom Institute library files covering everything from Cardassians to the Temporal Cold War. These files are both fun and full of fascinating background information that both casual and long time devoted Trekkies will find interesting.
The Kressari are one of those species we are short on info on. There’s just a limited number of appearances for them in Star Trek. The most prominently appeared on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but mostly as background on the promenade. Most In the case of most science fiction franchises an alien race that’s just in the background wouldn’t be given any sort of backstory, but this is Star Trek.

As usual the Star Trek novels add more to the Kressari. In the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine novels “Fearful Symmetry” and “Soul Key” we find out that the Kressari have rigid skin that doesn’t allow them to express emotions using facial expressions like many other races. So instead of facial expressions the Kressari communicate their mood by changing their eye color.
If you ever want to dive deeper into Trek remember that the novels and games are a great way to do that. It may be beta-cannon, but the Star Trek novels and games like Star Trek Online add a lot to the Star Trek Universe that just can’t be done on television.
