Star Trek YouTuber Ketwolski has produced a series of fan made Daystrom Institute library files covering everything from Cardassians to the Temporal Cold War. These files are both fun and full of fascinating background information that both casual and long time devoted Trekkies will find interesting.
The Vaadwaur Supremacy was a really interesting take on a dead empire. The Vaadwaur were once a great power in the Delta Quadrant, but by the time of Star Trek: Voyager that was long past. This was a power that dominated the quadrant and was feared by all the other powers, then fell from grace and found themselves forgotten. The Vaadwaur were the Roman Empire and now they are desperate to find a way to push back the Vandals and reclaim their former glory.

This was a great episode of Voyager because Voyager represented to the Vaadwaur a way out. As usual though the one shot crazy way out doesn’t work. You can’t recapture glory on one shot, there is no get rich scheme. This was the kind of moment when you loved Voyager, this was when Voyager was at its best. I just wish there had been more stories like the one about the Vaadwaur in Voyager.
Hopefully Star Trek: Discovery continues the tradition of Trek and has compelling alien species like the Vaadwaur in store for us.
