ICYMI: Real life medical Tricorder may be coming soon.
Exciting news for Star Trek fans living in the UK as December 2017 see’s the return of the ‘For the Love of Sci-Fi ‘convention at Manchester’s B.E.C Arena in Trafford Park. For the Love of Sci-Fi does is a celebration of all things Sci-Fi from Star Wars to Trek, Battlestar Gallactica to Masters of the Universe and will run over two days from the 2nd to the 3rd of December.
The Love of Sci-Fi Facebook page promises that “this year’s event will bring you mind blowing animatronic prop builds and sets, famous guests and more” and they are not joking around on the guest front. Already confirmed for the event is He-Man himself Dolph Lundgreen, Ernie Hudson of Ghostbusters fame and Star Wars alum in the shape of Billy Dee-Williams, Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett) and Dave Prowse, along with many more.

What makes this event extra special for Trek fans is that Captain Kirk himself Mr. William Shatner will be making an appearing. This will mark his second appearance at a UK Convention in the space of seven months, having appeared at the Star Trek 50th anniversary celebration convention at Birmingham’s NEC back in October 2016. UK fans can only hope that is a trend that will continue and a hope that James T Kirk has gained a fondness for fish and chips and not put off by the British weather.
What’s interesting about this particular event is that it actually started life celebrating one particular universe from the world of science fiction, a universe set in a galaxy far far away. No idea what I’m talking about? Well it used to be called For the love of the Force, and back in its debut year of 2015 it was one of the biggest independent Star Wars conventions seen in the UK. The convention was complete with full size X-Wing, AT-ST Walker and a real life replica of the cantina bar (complete with Blue Milk) with the cantina bar still in operation for this year’s Love of Sci-Fi event.
