Thanks to IDW, we have a seven-page preview of Star Trek: Waypoint Special No. 1, an all-new collection of tales from across the Trek universe.

It goes without saying that the universe of Star Trek is incredibly vast. It covers a multitude of time periods, realities and characters so large that creators could tell stories about Trek for decades to come and not run out of original ideas to share.

That was the idea behind IDW Publishing‘s Star Trek: Waypoint. Published in 2016 and 2017, Waypoint was a six-issue bimonthly series that told stories from corners of the Trek universe that might otherwise have never seen the light of day. Much in the same tradition as the critically acclaimed and much missed Star Wars Tales series, Star Trek: Waypoint was less worried about continuity and more concerned with telling a really good story. Which is usually did.

Now, after too long of a wait, IDW had brought Star Trek: Waypoint back to comic shops everywhere.

More from Comics

Star Trek: Waypoint Special No. 1 is a 48-page celebration of everything Trek. Created by some of the best writers and artists in the business, this special once again covers the breadth of the Trek universe from the Original Series onward.

Waypoint Special No. 1 includes the talents of writers Dave Baker & Nicole Goux, Brandon Easton, Jackson Lanzig & Collin Kelly, Matthew Dow Smith along with the artistic work of Nicole Goux, Josh Hood, Sonny Liew and Matthew Dow Smith. And the entire thing is wrapped up in a gorgeous cover by Josh Hood.

Can’t really ask for a better lineup of talent than that.

From the IDW solicitation:

"The anthology series spanning 50 years of Star Trek returns in this oversized annual! These weird and wonderful stories—set during the Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and more—expand on rarely explored corners of the universe or provide closure for long-forgotten plot threads. But they all remind us of why we love Trek. This volume features your favorite characters, including Data, Q, and Ezri Dax, handled by the top creators of today and the future!"
