New trailer, poster for Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 released

CBS has dropped a third trailer for the upcoming Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery with a ton of new footage as well as a new poster and synopsis.

With the debut of the highly anticipated second season of Star Trek: Discovery quickly approaching, the CBS hype machine has kicked into high gear. In addition to a new trailer which includes a ton of new footage, fans also got new artwork which includes the entire cast as well as Captain Pike, Spock and the Enterprise and a new, more detailed synopsis for the season.

So let’s take things one step at a time, shall we?

First, check out what you can be sure anyone would agree is a gorgeous poster which will serve as the key art for Season 2.

More from Star Trek: Discovery

The poster includes the entire returning cast as well as newcomers Pike and Spock, played by Anson Mount and Ethan Peck respectively. Plus, it would seem that the Enterprise is taking a real beating at the hands of Discovery. Can’t wait to see what that is all about.

In addition to the new artwork, fans have a new two-minute long trailer to enjoy. The new trailer is heavy on the action and seems to really be trying to set the tone for the upcoming season. In it we get a lot a Spock, a lot of Pike and a lot of what fans seemed to love about the first season of Discovery, just with the volume turned up to 11.

And if Pike’s line of “Be bold. Be Brave. Be courageous.” doesn’t send a shiver down your spine, then go watch Star Wars. We just don’t have time for you here.

Finally, CBS has released a new synopsis for Season 2, which gives us a some more detail about what the upcoming season will involve.

"After answering a distress signal from the U.S.S. Enterprise, season two of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY finds the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery joining forces with Captain Christopher Pike on a new mission to investigate seven mysterious red signals and the appearance of an unknown being called the Red Angel. While the crew must work together to unravel their meaning and origin, Michael Burnham is forced to face her past with the return of her estranged brother, Spock."

Now, I fully realize that there are a lot of Trek fans who want nothing to do with Discovery for any number of reasons. Which is a real shame. Season 2 looks like it is going to be a vast improvement over Season 1 and should clarify Discovery‘s place in the overall lore of Star Trek. It would be a real shame to miss it.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 arrives on CBS All Access on Thursday, January 17, 2019.
