CBS has released a brand spanking new trailer and six images for the third episode of the hit second season of Star Trek: Discovery.

It would seem when it comes to the second season of Star Trek: Discovery, CBS has a hit on their hands.

Reviews for the first two episodes were solid and almost everyone was excited to see the return of Jonathan Frakes to the director’s chair for last week’s “New Eden.” The response to Anson Mount as Captain Pike has been universally applauded with some fans (this one included) calling for showrunner Alex Kurtzman to give him his own show.

More from Star Trek: Discovery

As for the haters who continue to say Discovery isn’t “real” Star Trek and bemoan the fact it’s only available on a streaming service? I think it’s safe to say we’ve all moved on and they are just screaming into the wind at this point.

This week sees the debut of the third episode of the season, titled “Point of Light.” It features the return to Discovery of several characters, including Alan Van Sprang’s Leland and Michelle Yeoh’s Georgiou as Section 31 heads to the Klingon home world. In addition, Michael Burnham and Spock’s mother Amanda (Mia Kirshner) makes her first visit to the U.S.S. Discovery.

Ahead of “Point of Light” arriving on CBS All Access, they have released a new trailer as well as six new images from the episode.

The official synopsis for “Point of Light”:

"A surprise visitor to the U.S.S. Discovery brings shocking news about Spock and dredges up past regrets for Burnham. Following the asteroid incident, Tilly struggles to keep a grip on her reality. L’Rell’s authority on Qo’noS is threatened."

So far Season 2 has been just about as good as was expected. At this rate the wait between episodes will be unbearable by the time the season starts to wind down. Star Trek: Discovery – “Point of Light” will be released on CBS All Access on January 31.
