Showrunner Alex Kurtzman has promised that answers to often asked questions are coming and with them will come big changes for the crew of the USS Discovery.

Those big changes have gotten many Trek fans talking and speculation about what’s coming has run the gamut. Theories have covered everything from the origins of the Borg to the Discovery being hurled into the far future.

Whatever it may be, it looks like Discovery Season 3 will be one for the ages.

Before that, “Such Sweet Sorrow” sees the return of a familiar face for those fans who watched the Star Trek: Short Treks episode “Runaway.” Yadira Guevara-Prip returns as Po, the queen of the planet Xahea which is overflowing with dilithium. How this will tie in with the battle against Leland and Control remains to be seen, but considering Po created a way to recrystallize dilithium, it could have something to do with the time crystal the crew picked up in “Through the Valley of Shadows.”

In anticipation of “Such Sweet Sorrow” CBS has released nine new images from the episode. They include a look at the returning Po as well as Michael Burnham and Ash Tyler getting closer.

“Such Sweet Sorrow” synopsis:

"When the U.S.S. Discovery’s crucial mission does not go according to plan, Burnham realizes what must ultimately be done. The crew prepares for the battle of a lifetime as Leland’s Control ships get closer."

In addition, CBS has also released the trailer for the episode on Star Trek.com, and it has found its way onto YouTube as well.

It is not an exaggeration to say that the entire second season of Star Trek: Discovery has been leading up to these two episodes. While many of us thought it was about the hunt for the Red Angel, it turns out Season 2 was more about the ultimate destiny of the Discovery and the people who call it home.

And every indication is that the story is just beginning.
