CBS has released nine new images for “Such Sweet Sorrow Part 2” the highly anticipated season finale for the second season of Star Trek: Discovery.

If showrunner Alex Kurtzman is to be believed, by this time Friday all our questions about Star Trek: Discovery and how exactly it fits into the overall Star Trek canon will be answered.

Questions such as how exactly did we go all this time and not know Spock had a foster sister by the name of Michael Burnham? How come we never heard of the spore drive before now? Why has there never been another ship named Discovery?

Popular opinion is that by the end of “Such Sweet Sorrow Part 2” we will have our answers and that they will involve time travel of some kind. The prevailing theory is that the ship and her crew will be flung into the far future and that the very existence of the USS Discovery and all hands on board will be deemed classified by Starfleet.

Of course, that’s just one theory. There are plenty more and any one of them could end up being the truth. But we’re all going to have to wait until Thursday to find out.

In the meantime, CBS has released nine new images from “Such Sweet Sorrow Part 2” but honestly, they don’t give us any clues. The bulk of them are from what looks like the bridge of the Enterprise with the remaining few of former Emperor Georgiou. Since we know she won’t be joining the Discovery wherever she’s going due to the upcoming Section 31 series, that’s of no help.

The trailer for the episode, which has been released on Star Trek.com, is also infuriatingly cryptic and doesn’t give away much of anything in terms of plot.

I know it’s been said elsewhere, but how awesome does the Enterprise look? Watching the ship go into action with Pike in command would be enough to convince any Trek fan to watch. But this season of Discovery has been an amazing ride. The producers have said multiple times that fans will be blown away by the finale and the new status quo it sets up for the series.

No matter how good Season 3 is, it’s fair to say that it will be tough to top Season 2 in terms of pure spectacle and emotional punch.
