Official: New Star Trek animated series heading to Nickelodeon
By D. Goodman
The rumors became facts as it has been officially announced that a new CG animated Star Trek series will be airing on Nickelodeon.
Hopefully whoever said too much Star Trek is never a bad thing is right.
First reported months ago, Nickelodeon and CBS have made the news official that a new, CG animated Star Trek series will be heading to the cable network. The new series will be squarely aimed at teens and young adults and will attempt to broaden the Trek demographic a bit.
The as yet untitled series will be developed by Kevin and Dan Hageman, whose past credits include Trollhunters and Ninjago. It will be produced by the new CBS animation division Eye Animation Productions and Roddenberry Entertainment with Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Katie Krentz, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth all serving as executive producers.

In a statement, CBS described the series as following a group of “lawless teens” who discover a rundown starship and set off on an adventure looking for salvation and meaning.
For his part, Kurtzman sounds pretty excited about the possibilities the new series presents.
"“Star Trek’s mission is to inspire generations of dreamers to build a brighter future. Dan and Kevin have crafted a story that honors its exploratory spirit in a way that’s never been done before, while the Nickelodeon team blew us away with their excitement at bringing Trek to a younger generation around the world.”"
This is the third animated Star Trek project to officially get the green light. Rick and Morty‘s Mike McMahan is currently developing Star Trek: Lower Decks for CBS All Access and there are a pair of animated Star Trek: Short Treks episodes in the pipeline as well.
However, this is the first Star Trek project since the premiere of Star Trek: Discovery to not air on the CBS streaming service. If this goes well and the rating are solid, could this lead to more Trek airing outside the streaming model? We’ll have to wait and see.
Currently there is no premiere date or even a name for the new series, but as soon as that changes you can read about it right here on Redshirts Always Die.
