During an interview at San Diego Comic-Con, Patrick Stewart confirmed that yes, he will be back in a Starfleet uniform via flashbacks on Picard.

The Star Trek: Picard trailer that made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con last week was practically sensory overload for many a Trekker. The trailer has a lot going on and a lot to take in, so much that it has already been viewed over seven and a half million times as of this writing.

Not too bad for a show on a streaming service starring a character no one has seen for almost 20 years.

Picard picks up with a former captain who is trying to live a quiet life on the family vineyard, making wine and hanging out with his of Number One. But it isn’t long before duty calls and the former captain of the Enterprise must head back into action once again, leading a makeshift crew on a mission revolving around Dahj, the MacGuffin of the story.

The only problem for some fans? Picard won’t be in his Starfleet uniform while taking care of business.

For many people, Picard’s uniform, in particular the version he wore during the later seasons of The Next Generation, is as much a part of the character as Patrick Stewart. The so called “Picard Maneuver” where Stewart would tug down on the shirt of his uniform to put it back in place, has become almost as iconic as the character himself.

But fear not Picard fans. It turns out we will be seeing Stewart back in uniform over the course of the first season of Star Trek: Picard.

More from Redshirts Always Die

While being interviewed by TV Line at SDCC, Stewart revealed that he would be back in his Starfleet issue uniform in the form of flashbacks. This despite the fact he very much didn’t want to have to wear one in the new series.

"“I did strongly make the point that I did not want to be in a uniform…at all… And I have just made myself look slightly foolish by insisting that in the end of next week’s [filming] work, I will be in a uniform… Because it’s a flashback and I said ‘in order for this to have the right kind of context, I need to be in a uniform'”"

Given how much apparently happened between Star Trek: Nemesis and Star Trek: Picard, flashbacks seem like a given. Fans no doubt want to know about the event that caused Picard to leave Starfleet and his final mission aboard the Enterprise-E. It’s good to know that we will be getting at least a glimpse into those events in Season 1.

So relax and get ready. The “Picard Maneuver” is about to make a comeback when Star Trek: Picard arrives on CBS All Access sometime in early 2020.
