Star Trek comic book solicitations from IDW for October
By D. Goodman
IDW Publishing has released their comic book solicitations for October and fans have a trio of Star Trek titles to look forward to.
It’s the end of the month and that means that the comic book solicitations have arrived for the month of October. It may feel a bit odd to be thinking of the fall and Halloween, but that’s the way the comic book industry works.
IDW Publishing, the home for Star Trek comics, is no exception and they have released their list of what upcoming titles readers can expect to find in comic shops and on digital devices later this year.
In terms of Star Trek, fans have three new books they can look forward to. One is the conclusion of the latest Star Trek: Discovery miniseries, another is the latest issue of the tale of the Enterprise‘s final year in space and finally there is the return of Star Trek: Voyager to comics as was announced at San Diego Comic-Con.
First up is Star Trek: Discovery: Aftermath No. 3, the final issue of IDW’s latest Discovery miniseries. The book takes place between the second and third seasons and features a story centering on Captain Pike, Spock and the crew of the Enterprise. It is written by Kirsten Beyer and Mike Johnson with interior art by Tony Shasteen and a cover by Angel Hernandez. The book will also feature a variant photo cover.

"You saw the stunning conclusion of the second season of Star Trek: Discovery—now prepare yourselves for the ending of the Aftermath! With the fragile peace between the Klingons and the Federation hanging by a thread, Spock, Captain Pike, and Chancellor L’Rell make a last stand against the forces threatening to ignite a new galactic war!"
Next is Star Trek: Year Five No. 7 which continues the perviously untold story of the final year of the original Enterprise‘s five-year mission. It continues the Tholian storyline that has been running since issue No. 1 and is written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly with artwork and cover by Stephen Thompson. It will also feature a variant cover by J.J. Lendl.
"Just as the crew is finally able to communicate with their Tholian passenger, the Enterprise runs into a new obstacle—a Tholian web! But as the crew works with other trapped ships to figure out how to escape, new questions about what the Tholian Assembly is planning darken the horizon."
Finally is Star Trek: Voyager: Mirrors and Smoke which was announced at SDCC. It features the first ever look at the Mirror Universe versions of the crew of the USS Voyager and how they have taken over the Delta Quadrant. It is written by Paul Allor with interior art and cover by J.K. Woodward. It also includes a variant cover by George Caltsoudas.
"Stranded far from the ruins of the Terran Empire, Captain Janeway of the rebel ship Voyager has crowned herself Pirate Queen of the Delta Quadrant! Of course, the locals won’t give in without a fight—especially not scavengers Neelix and Kes. And who is this apparent Terran who calls herself Annika Hansen? Find out in Mirror Voyager’s amazing comic book debut!"
Honestly it is good to see so much quality Star Trek content coming out from IDW. It may not be as good as the Golden Age when DC Comics had the license, but it’s head and shoulders better than when Marvel had it for a brief time.
All these titles will be available this coming October in both comic book stores and on your favorite digital devices.
