Star Trek: Strange New World’s Anson Mount is going to help METI, a not for profit organization with their goal of finding alien lifeforms.
When Anson Mount returns to Star Trek with his new series Strange New Worlds, one of the things the leading man will do is lead the U.S.S. Enterprise on a journey to discover new alien lifeforms and establish first contact with them. That’s generally the idea when you have a Star Trek series, and when Mount returns as Captain Chris Pike, that’s exactly what fans will get.
What if, however, you didn’t have to wait for Mount’s return as Pike to see someone from Star Trek attempt to make first contact with alien lifeforms?
That’s what Mount is going to do with the folks at METI. METI stands for Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence, and they’re a nonprofit organization that attempts to establish communications with alien life forms.
On Tuesday, Mount posted a press release, where he announced that he’s going to be helping METI in their mission.
"It is a distinct privilege to be asked to join the outstanding scientists, artists, and innovators that make up the METI team. I look forward to helping this organization expand its footprint in our cultural landscape and educate the general public about our endeavors to connect with extraterrestrial intelligence through scientific methods as we continue to grapple with the implications of this work. As a Starfleet Captain, it brings me unbridled joy to be able to say that I am actually sending out a hail."

For those unaware, METI is an arm of SETI, also known as the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. SETI listens for any potential signals, while METI is sending its own out. The two work arm in arm in their quest for looking for alien life. Both are based in San Francisco, the fictional home for Starfleet.
