Chris Pine wants the Star Trek Kelvin films to continue with or without him

Chris Pine took over the role of James T. Kirk for the 2009 Star Trek film, but the actor no longer knows if his future is in the franchise.
Chris Pine recently spoke about the possibility of Star Trek’s next film being done by renowned filmmaker Quinten Tarantino. While speaking to ComicBook.com (via Indiewire), Pine revealed to them that he hasn’t read any new Star Trek script belonging to Tarantino or fellow storyteller Noah Hawley. Hawley’s film was going to replace the main cast of the last three Kelvin films with new characters and possibly in a new (or old) universe, though his film has been put on the shelf.
So far neither film has gotten much traction going forward, but that hasn’t stopped Pine from hoping there’s more to come, whether or not he’s apart of it. Pine goes on to say that it’s a great universe and hopes that it has a future
"I love the character, I love the universe, I love my friends in it, you know, to have a Quentin take on it would be tremendously interesting and entertaining You know, look, whatever happens, if I come back or not, it’s a great universe, it deserves to have a future, and I hope that is the case."
Pine has been part of the Star Trek franchise since 2009’s Star Trek, which saw him take the reigns as Captain Kirk, replacing former Kirk-actor William Shatner who had played the role off-and-on since the 1960s. Pine’s turn as Kirk was met with mostly positive reviews and his trip with the 2009 film was so popular that it spawned two sequels.
First was Into Darkness, a film most enjoyed, but ultimately took issue with it being a rehash of Wrath of Khan from the 80s. The second sequel, third overall, was Beyond, a film that was mostly panned by fans and critics alike, despite adding Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella to the lineup as brand new, never before seen aliens.
Hopefully, Pine gets a final film to send off the Kelvin Universe properly.
