If there’s a fourth Star Trek film in the Kelvin universe, it should feature John de Lancie returning as Q to formally wrap up the series with one big move.

The fourth Star Trek film in the Kelvin timeline may never happen, and that would be kind of sad to not get a true conclusion to the story. Even though some fans hate it, and even though Anton Yelchin is gone, there’s still content there that can be woven into stories. Namely, finishing the Kelvin timeline story and using famed actor John de Lancie and his character Q to do it.

The universe started with Prime Spock going to another universe. It should end with the crew of the Enterprise being sent back to the original timeline, maybe around the events of Picard or in various spots in the timeline, to bring those actors into this universe and end the Kelvin stories once and for all.

While Chris Pine might be too big league to hang out on a television series that airs digitally, the rest of the cast isn’t. It’s not hard to figure out why it’d be nice to condense the two universes. So much of The Next Generation’s early days were using the original cast to help tell certain stories.

It’d be nice if the Star Trek franchise continued on with that famed tradition of cameo performances. Even better, bringing certain actors and characters, like Karl Urban’s Bones McCoy into series as a regular or even star. What if Star Trek: Strange New Worlds brought Bones in as their doctor. It could be played for laughs as Bones is thanking the Captain for giving him a chance in a new universe to “get away from that pointy-eared bastard” only to run into young Spock.

The deflated “….of course…” when he runs into Spock would be prime viewing.

Now it doesn’t have to be that idea, nor does it have to be that character or show. It should, however, be a situation where the Enterprise is about to be destroyed and right before it does de Lancie arrives as Q to give everyone a second chance. To reward them for their heroism.

Q, after all, has become a “friend” to Jean-Luc Picard in the eyes of some as the events of The Next Generation ended. So it would make sense that if he respects Picard that much, that he’d be able to find charm in other humans.

It would set up a whole new world of opportunities and storytelling ideas. Let’s just hope that if de Lancie is used in a movie that he’s given the opportunity to be as grand as he was during his heyday on The Next Generation.

Likewise for a fourth Kelvin film, whatever the idea that the writers go with finally, hopefully, it just pays respect to the hard work and love that the cast and crew put in it.
