Review: Resident Alien season 1, episode 10 – “Heroes of Patience”
By Chad Porto
The season one finale of Resident Alien is officially in the book. Did our favorite alien Harry destroy all human life on Earth as we know it? Of course not, there’s a season two coming. The real question is what saved the day? After all, it’s not about if, but how.
The two big plots for the episode revolve around Harry’s constant uncertainty about whether or not to kill the people of Earth while having hallucinations that the dead human-Harry is around and tormenting him with all that he’s lost at the hands of the alien-Harry. When Asta discovers that alien-Harry killed human-Harry and lied about it, she confronts him and dismisses him right when alien-Harry is at a weak point and in the middle of a crisis of consciousness.
Her dismissal prompts Harry to activate the device and he’s about to leave until Asta and Max show up and get captured by the United States military. Harry saves the day and Asta convinces Harry, not to use the device, which she knows about thanks to Max and the other main arch. Harry leaves, not wanting to hurt Asta and because of that doesn’t kill humans. The episode ends with Harry flying off to be with his people only to find a shocked Max hitching a ride.
The other big plot revolves around the agents of David and Lisa who kidnap Max and Sahar. Throughout the episode they find out the “town doctor” is the alien, when they break into Max’s house and capture him and Sahar. A fight between Max’s parents and the two people in clothes breaks out and in a funny and touching bit, Max’s parents (Ben and Kate) rekindler their romance while violently assaulting both the agents.
Not done yet, the agents break into the local medical unit and capture the town doctor, Dr. Ethan Stone, and not Harry. Thinking they captured the alien, General Eleanor Wright (special guest star Linda Hamilton) then gives the order for Lisa to kill David, betraying him after all this time. They’re thwarted when a group of oblivious people walks by, seemingly sparing David. For now.
"I cant kill everyone on Earth with an empty stomach."
The other big story beats include D’Arcy dealing with her depression and being lied to by Asta for the last few episodes, eventually bonding with Asta’s daughter Jay and pulling a prank together on Jay’s father Jimmy.
Sherrif Mike and Deaupty Liv continue to develop a better relationship, with Mike now agreeing with a lot of Liv’s thoughts about the murder cases, and buying her a coffee machine that she apparently wanted for the office.
They also discover a shoe that belonged to the body of human-Harry, which no longer exists as alien-Harry destroyed it.
