The folks working on Star Trek: Stange New Worlds had a scary moment recently when they found out a guest actor who was coming in to film, had tested positive for the coronavirus. The actor, apparently from Vancouver, came in and had no direct contact with any of the cast and only a few members of the crew.

Apparently, they had only begun their fittings when their tests came back and the positive result was flagged. The person and the crew they came into contact with are now in quarantine.

As of right now, no one else has tested positive for the virus.

According to Deadline;

"An actor who had flown in to Toronto for a guest role on Paramount+’s new series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has tested positive for coronavirus.The person, who is believed to have come from Vancouver, had not made it to the set of the show. He had only came in contact with a few people during a fitting when the positive test result was received as part of CBS Studios’ rigorous testing procedures in accordance with the industrywide Covid protocols that have keep TV sets safe. As part of that, contact tracing immediately was initiated, and the affected person, as well as the few people who were deemed close contacts, have been quarantined. No one else has tested positive at this time.According to sources, production on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has not been impacted, and the series still is filming."

This comes at a time where the province of Ontario is under a one-month lockdown due to a surge in Covid cases. For those unaware, Toronto, where the show is filmed, is in the province of Ontario. This appears to be a situation that is under control and shouldn’t escalate further but it is a clear reminder why being aware and still taking this pandemic seriously is important.

Especially with those highest of risk. While vaccinations are being adminstered, there’s still risk in the unvaccinated and of course in illness mutations. Making sure everyone is as safe as humanly possible is the number one priority.

By all optics, it appears as though the entire set of Strange New Worlds was well protected. While some people were potentially exposed, that was it. The studio was able to act swiftly, minimiznig the risk and making sure everyone got the care they need.

It’s scary to think about, but this is what it looks like when the protocals put in place work. We are all hoping for the speedy recovery of all those affected.
