Fans of Star Trek Fleet Command can now use characters from The Next Generation.

If you’re unfamiliar, Star Trek Fleet Command is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, or MMORPG, that you can play on your cellphone. It features characters from the entirety of the Star Trek franchise, and you can pick and choose which one you want to have on your ship. It’s a very popular mobile game these days, and now you can acquire characters from The Next Generation.

Fleet Command isn’t to be confused with Star Trek Online, or Star Trek: Legends, despite the fact they’re all various forms of the same game. Online is a computer-based MMORPG, but a similar concept, while Legends has a different narrative experience and focuses more on being a conventional RPG.

A lot of The Next Generation crew will be in Star Trek Fleet Command.

If you’re curious who you can play as and acquire in Fleet Command, don’t worry, it’s most of the main cast. Jean-Luc Picard, Geordi La Forge, Deanna Troi, Data, Beverly Crusher, and a young William Riker are all shown on StarTrek.com’s preview of the game. That means that names like Worf, Guinan, and a few others may not be used in the game.

For Worf, it might have something to do with his use in the Star Trek: Legends campaign.

It also might just be an editorial oversight, as the site heavily implies the entire crew will be available for use;

"Jean-Luc Picard, Geordi La Forge, Data, and the rest of the Next Generation crew are readying themselves for recruitment in the MMORPG mobile game, Star Trek Fleet Command."

Additionally, the site also states that this will be an evolving experience with threats that fans will be familiar with.

"Additionally, the event will continue to evolve over time, with new surprises rolling out in the following months."

The game is now available for Apple and Window supported phones, and the Next Generation addition to the game is live as of May 11, 2021.
