Kate Mulgrew of Star Trek fame will join The Man Who Fell to Earth remake

Kate Mulgrew will join Chiwetel Ejiofor, Naomi Harris, and Jimmi Simpson in the remake of the classic science fiction film The Man Who Fell to Earth. There is one noticeable difference between the two versions, the original was a film, while the remake will be made for Showtime as a television series.

It should come as no surprise that Mulgrew nabbed a role in the series, as the head of Star Trek at the moment, Alex Kurtzman will be the one writing, directing, and producing the series. It’s very common for performers and creators to work together on multiple projects. Mulgrew, after all, played Captain Kathryn Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager and will reprise her role in 2021.

The original film featured David Bowie in the starring role, as an alien who has come to Earth to find water for his homeworld. The film ends on a rather dower note, which isn’t too surprising for the era it was made in. Ejiofor will now take a turn as the titular falling man, though many hope he makes the role his own and doesn’t try to emulate Bowie’s iconic turn as Thomas Jerome Newton.

2021 has been a big year for Kate Mulgrew in and out of Star Trek

More from News

Kate Mulgrew has tackled 2021 in a big way. Not only is she a part of the remake of The Man Who Fell to Earth, but she’s seen her stock rise thanks in part to her involvement with the Star Trek franchise.

She was announced to be joining the cast of the animated series Star Trek: Prodigy, a series that is so anticipated that it’ll debut on Paramount+ instead of Nickelodeon (to help boost subscriber numbers), as well as serving as the catalyst to a whole new line of Playmates action figures that have long been canceled.

The new series is expected to be a hotbed of memorabilia and was a major reason why Playmates was open to relaunching the Star Trek action figure line. A line that Mulgrew is already a part of.

Now with a major series like The Man Who Fell to Eart, as well as continued support for her to get her own Picard-like series, Janeway is having one heck of a year. Who knows what comes next?
