Rating the first five Star Trek theme songs from worst to best.

On September 08, 1966, the adventures of Captain James T Kirk, MR. Spock and Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, and with a colorful cast of characters debuted. The broadcast would see the show set against a background of outer space, while onboard the starship U.S.S Enterprise, and from that first episode would begin a trend of creating some of the most recognizable theme songs in television history.

Since then, rarely a day has passed without that original theme song, or the other variations that would follow are not playing through the speakers of a television set somewhere in the world. We have to ask, however, which one of those 5 theme songs is the best and which ones just didn’t quite cut it (according to the humble opinion of this particular Trekky)

Well, let’s find out.

This list will take you through #5 (the Trek theme song that while good, just didn’t quite work) to #1 (quite simply the greatest Star Trek theme song of all-time) and for those fans of the newer series, have no fear, for their will be a second piece devoted to those series.

I think it also bears mentioning, that for those of my readers who did not know, I am actually completely blind, so my judgments will be based purely on the music alone and not any of the images that appear on the screen.

Remember, this is just one Trekkie’s opinion, and I always welcome the opinions of others, if they can do so in a respectful manner, all PSAs aside, let’s begin.
