Anson Mount’s tweet about Star Trek: Strange New World was misinterpreted

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is coming to a screen near you. The show has become a rallying point for ViacomCBS and Star Trek as a whole, who are building up the idea that this is the show that will return fans to the old Trek formula. Anson Mount, the man who’s starring in the show as Captain Christopher Pike seemingly echoed these words.

Mount tweeted in July that “old school fans” were going to be very excited to see “what we’re trying to pull off”.

So naturally, people really doubled down on the notion that the series would cater to older fans. After all, the entire marketing pitch to the fanbase was that the series was returning their “story of the week” approach like Trek and new shows like The Orville have done.

Except, Mount didn’t mean the series would cater to old fans.

Anson Mount clarifies Star Trek: Strange New World tweet

Speaking to SyFy Wire about the show, Mount was asked about this exact Tweet, only for him to clarify what he actually meant.

"SyFy Wire: I think a lot of your fans recognize that affection for the material, too. Speaking of Trek, the expectations are sky high for the new show Strange New Worlds. Fans love your character and Rebecca’s on Discovery. You tweeted something awhile back that that was really interesting that old-school fans are going to like what you guys are trying to pull off with the show. What is it that fans should really be excited about for?Well, I think that tweet was a little misinterpreted. I was talking about episode 10, specifically. But I do think the spirit of our show is in its title. We’re going back to the big idea of the week, the new planet of the week. I think that in itself is going to be exciting for old school fans, as well as new ones."

So Mount stayed true to the marketing, story/planet/alien of the week format, but really emphasized that old-school fans would really dig episode 10.

So that has most of us wondering what could Mount mean and how would it appeal to older fans? Could we see Khan Noonien Singh pop up, after all, his descendant is apparently in the show? Maybe we’ll get Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) and some Enterprise easter eggs?

Who knows, but that little hint has me so very excited.
