Star Trek fans should have lofty expectations for the upcoming video game.

Star Trek has announced a new video game from Telltale veterans that will take fans into the world of Trek and Starfleet. The studio producing the game, Dramatic Labs, is made up of former Telltale members and by the sound of the announcement on Star Trek.com, the game is going to follow in the same vein as former Telltale properties.

Those properties, like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Batman: The Telltale Series, all feature a third-person perspective where the main character interacts with people and whose decisions not only affect how people deal with the main character but also how the game’s story changes based on those decisions.

The game is titled Star Trek: Resurgence and is scheduled for release in the spring of 2022 and will debut on the Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and as well on PC, exclusively on the Epic Games Store.

Fans should expect a Telltale clone with Star Trek: Resurgence

Star Trek.com describes Star Trek: Resugerance as an “interactive narrative video game”, which promises an original story. The game is set after The Next Generation and will take place aboard the U.S.S. Resolute, and players will take control of two characters;  First Officer Jara Rydek and Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz.

The game will have players trying to help quell a brewing conflict between two sets of aliens. The game promises fans that they’ll interact with new and returning characters from the Trek Universe and will see a gameplay mechanic very similar in design from past Telltale games.

There’s no word if the new studio, Dramatic Labs, will change their approach to the game, as Telltale used to release their games in chapters. Dramatic Labs may do that for Resurgence, or they may opt to release it all at once.
