Strange New Worlds debuts

While ViacomCBS figures out what they’re doing with the order of airing with their other shows, Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Discovery, we should all be hopeful that they don’t futz around with the upcoming new show’s schedule; Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. While we don’t know for sure when Strange New Worlds will debut, we do know it’ll be in 2022.

It’s unofficially set for “mid-2022” which implies a May-July window. The show is already hotly anticipated and has been greenlighted for a second season already; production of which starts in February of 2022. Fans are getting excited over the perspective of a return to the old “mission of the week” format, where the series dealt less with season-long arcs and more about pressing missions that took center stage.

Strange New Worlds, alongside Prodigy, represents the second era of the Nu Trek, which has been criticized for being too dark and gritty. An idea that opposes Gene Roddenberry’s original vision for the show. The showrunners and producers of the series have promised fans that these shows will be a new and hopeful Trek, more aligned with what the franchise is about.

Only time will tell if fans are more open to the new series. So far Prodigy is not only the highest critically rated show on Rotten Tomatoes, by a small margin, of the Nu Trek Era (Prodigy: 89%, STP: 87%, STD: 86%),  but it’s also the highest-rated fan-received show by a massive margin (Prodigy: 72%, STP: 54%, STD: 38%).

That should make fans excited about the potential of Strange New World.
