Games and toys

Star Trek fans love creating and collecting things. In 2022, they’re going to have that opportunity to do just that. While independent creators and lesser-known licensed stuff will be created and released throughout the year, these are the two biggest releases fans should keep an eye on.

Playmates Toy Return

The fans of the 90s were graced with one of the greatest toy lines in all of pop culture history; the Star Trek Playmate toys. Originally taking off around the last few seasons of the Next Generation and the original films series, the toy line included anything and everything created in the 90s it seemed. Variants were produced and developed to great acclaim and fans everywhere were smothered in a sea of toys. By the time that Enterprise aired, the toy line wasn’t as active and profitable so it fell away, making sure that Scott Bakula and the company would never get their own licensed figures in the same vein as past iterations. While there was merchandise for the show, it wasn’t the same.

That will change in 2022 as the Playmates line returns, first with a line of Star Trek: Prodigy characters, though no official date has been announced.

Star Trek: Resurgence

Star Trek: Resurgence is a third-person adventure game that will put the player in the captains’ chair and have them make life-or-death decisions that will affect the outcome of the game. It’s being developed by the same people that created the Telltale games that became very popular and will be designed very similarly. No release date for it has been announced just yet.
